SmartBoomBoxes has had better days, but it still progresses. Last October, the required upgrade to Linux forced Python to 3.11. The Websockets message bus, which was working fine, forced an upgrade. I have not been able to get it working since then. I even tried porting to MQTT - same problem. The LLMs are not too helpful - the code seems to be over both of our heads. Then yesterday, mimic3 would no longer build. But people have been saying it is unsupported and piper should be used, so I’m working on that in the meantime.
Still there is some good news. We’re finishing a 1-credit, 2 semester lab at SUNY New Paltz, and the students have a working prototype. We have some .odf files that can be printed to a .jpg or .png file that have orange logos and black/silver labels and icons. I hope to have them printed onto .045" aluminum and cut out three plaques for each boombox. More on that later.
One more - lots of updates on the hardware build here: minimy-mike99mac/hardware at main · mike99mac/minimy-mike99mac · GitHub
