Seeedstudio - Two new Mic array's available

I just saw on Facebook (yes, I know) Seeedstudio has added two new Mic Array voard for Raspberry Pi.

ReSpeaker 4-Mic Linear Array Kit for Raspberry Pi

ReSpeaker 6-Mic Circular Array kit for Raspberry Pi

Both now also have Sound outputs and because of the flat cable with the two pcb’s, I believe they can properly be used within custom cases / hardware mods.

Perhaps the 4-mic can also be used in a Mark-1 b/c version. No clue if that is even possible with the arduino etc.

I think I will order both later in time.

Can anyone tell me if this works or not. We are wanting to replace the microphone in the Mark 1 as the Alexa we got last December with its upgraded microphones is just awesome and I really want my Mark 1 to be better, faster, stronger…(hee hee).

It certainly won’t be a plug and play scenario but at the end of the day it’s a Raspberry Pi inside so anything is possible.

If you do choose to start hacking it together, you’ll probably be interested in some of the current discussion taking place in the Picroft Channel on Chat. Short story:

  • We’ve been using the Seeed Mic Array v2 for the Mark II
  • be sure to follow their instructions to upgrade the firmware
  • be aware that the mic array outputs audio at full volume always.
