Here’s a short demo comparing the Raspberry Pi 5 to the Mark 2 (Pi 4). I’m very impressed with the local performance; this used a basic USB microphone/sound card for speakers but I plan on testing out some other audio solutions that currently work with the Pi4. I have a build presently running so anyone with a Pi5 can run Neon OS and will comment with a link once it’s ready.
Hi NeonDaniel,
I recently purchased a Raspberry Pi 5 and have been encountering issues finding a compatible image for it. I attempted to use the image initially linked in the discussion, but it appears the link is no longer functional.
In my efforts, I tried flashing images intended for both the Raspberry Pi 4 and the Orange Pi 5 onto my Raspberry Pi 5. Unfortunately, when using the Orange Pi 5 image, I encountered a boot error indicating “no bootable partition.”
Could you clarify if there’s a specific image I should use for the Raspberry Pi 5? Or perhaps there is a need for certain adjustments or an alternative download source that I should consider? Any guidance on getting my device up and running would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance!
Sorry about that; I went back and updated the link in my previous post.
The “rpi4” images should work on the Pi 5; I tested with both a USB and Micro SD card. The latest release from yesterday can be downloaded here. Let me know if you run into any issues; I’m happy to help work through them .
Thank you for the quick reply,
When I installed pi4 image from your site i got during boot some issues, have to look it up what those were, for now I am trying to run the docker containers upon the pi5 raspberryPi os.
also any change a pi5 hardware supported version will be released in the future?
Hi @green9berry
The ovos-installer
runs OVOS on Raspberry Pi 5, so maybe until Neon works on RPi 5 you could try it.
Flash a Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm 64-bit Lite and run the installer.
I believe a user in our Matrix chat got Neon containers running on a Pi 5 but I can’t find them on the forum here to tag them.
I see the installer supports ovos-core and HiveMind; would it be possible to also support Neon? Is that something I (or someone) could PR to that project? I admittedly haven’t gotten around to digging into that project but it’s been on my to-do list for weeks…
IMHO it makes more sense to fork the installer as neon-installer instead
HiveMind and OVOS complement each other, Neon replaces both
Hey could you maybe update the link, isn’t working for me. If it still works on raspberry pi 5.
Hello! Thanks for pointing that out; I’ve updated the link in my earlier post and I’ll also share a link here to our Latest Release on GitHub for Neon OS. The GitHub releases are a little easier to navigate and include links to the same files that the above link points to.
